Third step, once your initial coat of sealer has dried, sand lightly in the direction of wood grain. Use garden gloves to protect your hands from splinters while sanding. Fourth, remove dirt and dust with a clean paint brush. Fifth, apply two coats of primer to the furniture.

Primers are used as base coats or undercoats to prepare a surface for painting. Completely coat all surfaces and allow the primer to dry thoroughly. Drying may take 30 minutes to one hour. Sixth step, is to apply two light coats of paint or varnish to the furniture. Completely coat all surfaces and allow the paint or varnish to dry. Final step is to apply marine varnish as top coat which will protect your furniture from the elements of nature. Let dry overnight before use.
